The IQSSL held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for year 2015 on 2nd October 2015 at the Hilton Colombo Residences with the participation of a large number of Corporate Members. Annual Forum 2015 of Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka was held on 2nd October 2015 at the Hilton Colombo Residences, graced by many guests and Members.
The Construction Industry provides the final product of most major investments, i.e. the built facility. Hence, its cost becomes one of the major concerns of investment. In this background “Construction cost impact on investment – cause and effect” was selected by the IQSSL as the theme of the Annual Forum 2015.
The 3rd Annual Technical Session of IQSSL was successfully held on 1st of October 2015 from at the Committee Room ‘B’ of BMICH. Around 400 participants, including construction industry professionals and students from state and private educational institutions attended the event. It was held under the theme “Construction Cost Impact on Investment: Cause and Effect.”
Institute of Quantity Surveying, Sri Lanka and Northumbria University, UK, entered a Memorandum of Understanding to provide a pathway for College of Quantity Surveying - Higher National Diploma students to continue their studies at Northumbria University in the UK to obtain an RICS accredited BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying Degree.
The 19th Congress of Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS), an umbrella organisation of 13 country associations, was held in Yokohama, Japan, from 28th May to 1st June 2015. As many delegates discovered, Yokohama was the right place for the conference themed "Live together with Nature - Contribution to the sustainable world", as it is a city developed in consideration of harmony of tradition, innovation, technology and nature.
The winner of 2015 PAQS-Iwata Foundation Essay Competition, held under the theme of “Living together with the nature - contribution to the sustainable world” was Mr. Kasun Gunasekara, a young Graduate Member of IQSSL. This is the first time a Graduate member of the IQSSL won this Award. Mr. Gunasekara participated as an observer at the pre-congress PAQS Board meetings and also took part in the Young PAQS Group meeting in Yokohama, Japan. He also presented the winning essay at the PAQS 2015 Symposium.
Members of all seven Boards of IQSSL appointed for year 2014/15 gathered on 30th January 2015, for a policy discussion. Members of Boards met at the Organization for Professional Associations (OPA) premises to deliberate on current status and to plan their future endeavours.
The Gold Medal for Best QS Graduand at University of Moratuwa, donated annually by the IQSSL was awarded to Miss. Treshani Kaushalya Perera of the Department of Building Economics at the 2014 General Convocation of University of Moratuwa.
She obtained the highest Grade Point Average of 3.7 or above at the BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying examination held for academic year 2008/ 2009.
