SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS, CORNERSTONES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL VIABILITY

The time has come to build through public awareness and social opinions to make sustainability a requirement for building construction.

In the world of construction, buildings have the capacity to make a major contribution to a more sustainable future for our planet. Buildings in developed countries account for more than forty percent of energy consumption over their lifetime (incorporating raw material production, construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning).

WEBS DSC 5957The IQSSL held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for year 2015 on 2nd October 2015 at the Hilton Colombo Residences with the participation of a large number of Corporate Members. AGM proceedings commenced with the President, Ch. QS. Mr. Nishantha Wickramasinghe calling the AGM in to order.  Secretary, Ch. QS. Mr. Indunil Senevirathna read the Notice of AGM.

Members of all seven Boards of IQSSL appointed for year 2014/15 gathered on 30th January 2015, for a policy discussion. Members of Boards met at the Organization for Professional Associations (OPA) premises to deliberate on current status and to plan their future endeavours.

icon examInstitute of Quantity Surveying, Sri Lanka and Northumbria University, UK, entered a Memorandum of Understanding to provide a pathway for College of Quantity Surveying - Higher National Diploma students to continue their studies at Northumbria University in the UK to obtain an RICS accredited BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying Degree.

Annual Forum 2015Annual Forum 2015 of Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka was held on 2nd October 2015 at the Hilton Colombo Residences, graced by many guests and Members.

The Construction Industry provides the final product of most major investments, i.e. the built facility. Hence, its cost becomes one of the major concerns of investment. In this background “Construction cost impact on investment – cause and effect” was selected by the IQSSL as the theme of the Annual Forum 2015.
